Civil liability insurance for cars: also compulsory for your commercial vehicles

A Civil Liability (BA) insurance is required by law for every vehicle used on public roads, including your commercial vehicles.

Do you use non-matriculated work equipment (such as cranes and excavators) and do you use them on public roads? Then research is necessary to work out a tailor-made solution for the liability insurance of that equipment.

What risks does a civil liability insurance cover for your commercial vehicles?

The civil liability insurance covers physical and material damage to third parties if you or one of your employees causes an accident with a company vehicle. “Third parties“ are understood as:

  • other road users involved in the accident,
  • passengers in your commercial vehicle,
  • third parties other than road users (for example, the owner of the house whose garden gate was damaged by your commercial vehicle).

To what must you pay attention when you take out company car insurance?

If the driver of your commercial vehicle proves liable in the event of an accident, the basic Civil Liability Car cover will not cover the compensation for his physical injuries. If the accident happens during working hours or on the way to or from work, your occupational accident insurance will offer a solution. In order to protect your employee in other cases as well, it is advisable to take out a driver insurance.

In the event of an accident for which you or your company is at fault, own damage to the commercial vehicle is also not insured in the Civil Liability Car policy. Comprehensive insurance is required to cover that risk.
