Insurance distribution

Our office provides insurance distribution services, meaning activities that consist of advising on, proposing, carrying out preparatory work for the conclusion of insurance contracts, or concluding insurance contracts, as well as assisting in the administration and execution of insurance contracts, particularly in the event of a claim.

Policy terms and conditions

As an insurance broker, we work together with various insurance companies. Each company has their own general and special policy terms and conditions. To find out about the specific terms and conditions for each company and insurance product, please refer to our page Policy terms and conditions.

Duty of care

In order to assess whether you meet the conditions for the proposed insurance products and whether they are suited to your needs, we as an insurance broker have a duty of care. This means that we analyse your needs and requests in order to propose to you the most suitable product.

Conflicts of Interest

At Van Dessel, the policy on conflicts of interest forms an integral part of our code of conduct and professional integrity. If a (potential) conflict of interest arises, clearly defined and strict procedures will be immediately activated. Where necessary, we will inform you in an appropriate and transparent manner.

Remuneration

In return for our insurance distribution services, we receive in principle remuneration from the insurance company, which forms part of the premium that you pay as a customer. In addition, we may receive remuneration in connection with our insurance portfolio with the insurance company in question or in return for additional tasks that we perform. Please feel free to contact us for more information. In the other case, we receive remuneration for our insurance distribution services from you as a customer.

Sustainability policy SFDR

  1. Policies on sustainability risks

In accordance with the Sustainable Financial Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), our firm takes sustainability risks into account when advising on insurance policies with an investment component, insofar as this information is made available by the insurance company.

The SFDR has defined sustainability risk as 'an environmental (E), social (S) or governance (G) event or condition that, if it were to occur, could cause an actual or potential significant negative effect on the value of the investment'.

In the context of advice for insurance policies with an investment component, the remuneration policy applicable in our firm does not encourage excessive risk-taking in relation to sustainability risks.

  1. Adverse impacts on sustainability factors

The SFDR has defined sustainability factors as 'environmental, social and employment issues, respect for human rights, and combating corruption and bribery'.
The practice has not yet evolved sufficiently within the insurance market so that our firm cannot yet reasonably consider adverse effects of investment decisions on sustainability factors.

For this reason, our firm does not currently consider the negative effects of investment decisions on sustainability factors in its insurance advice for insurance policies with an investment component, unless the client has expressed his or her preference. In the latter case, our office will take this into account when assessing the suitability of the relevant insurance(s) with an investment component.

Our firm will review this policy depending on further developments within the insurance market.
