Why take out cancellation insurance?

If you have been saving up for the trip of a lifetime for months, or perhaps even years, you naturally want it to be perfect. An accident or bad luck in the run-up to your trip can quickly throw a spanner in the works. We learned that the hard way in 2020. Our cancellation policy therefore provides financial assistance if you have to unexpectedly cancel your trip.

What risks are covered by a cancellation policy?

A cancellation policy covers a wide range of events. Some examples are:

  • You are confronted with illness, accidental death, or an urgent organ transplant.
  • For medical reasons, you are unable to have the necessary vaccinations for your planned trip.
  • You or a member of your family (up to the 3rd degree) are confronted with medical complications or medical issues directly linked to a pregnancy.
  • You or your partner suddenly become unemployed.
  • Your employer withdraws your already approved holidays due to the illness, accident or death of a work colleague.

The corona virus has shown us that cancellation insurance is very important. Cancellation due to negative travel advice following corona is not covered by the standard cancellation insurance. Some insurers do offer more extensive policies, however, whereby cover for a cancellation is possible. It is, however, possible to cancel if the insured person is infected with the corona virus.

FAQ's

Do you have any questions about this insurance?

You will find answers to the questions that we are most frequently asked about this insurance here. Is your question not among them? Then don’t hesitate to ask our experts.

I want to cancel my trip as a result of the corona virus. Will I be compensated through my travel policy?

The cancellation of a trip due to the corona virus that has spread in the region where you intended to travel is not covered by the standard cancellation insurance. Some insurers do offer more extensive policies, however, whereby cover for a cancellation is possible, sometimes dependent on negative travel advice from the Federal Office for Foreign Affairs for the region in question. If you are affected by the corona virus before your departure, you will be covered by the standard cancellation policy (as for other illnesses). (Source: Assuralia)
